Ashleigh's Bio

Ashleigh Moolman Pasio is a South African cyclist, who has already established a great track record at the age of 37. Ashleigh was a very sporty person by nature. She played several sports as a child and her dream was to become a professional, but she did not immediately find a sport discipline in which she was truly the best. She had put her dream away until she met Carl Pasio during her first year at Stellenbosch University where she studied Chemical Engineering.

Carl Pasio, whom she also married, was a passionate triathlete who introduced Ashleigh to the sport. She also started  with triathlon, but she was not immediately the fastest swimmer and she regularly suffered injuries when running. So she eventually ended up in cycling. Carl soon spotted her talent and encouraged her to take up cycling more competitively. So Ashleigh started focusing on national level during her studies, only to broaden her horizons after graduating in 2009 and get introduced to European races. Thus began her international cycling career, in which she would only continue to grow. In the years that followed, she became South African and African road and time trial champion several times. She also achieved a series of top-5 and top-10 places in many prominent races. This for several cycling teams, for which she managed to play an important role in each of them.

Ashleigh is a cyclist who has a lot of expertise in different areas, but rather describes herself as someone who specialises in the classics and the grand tours. Her greatest asset is her anaerobic endurance, which makes the classics with tough and steep climbs perfect for her. In addition, she also knows how to stand her ground in a sprint as well as in a time trial. Of course she hopes to achieve a few more victories or nice results, such as the Flèche Wallonne, Tour de France Femmes,…

Being able to share and inspire other riders and the wider public is a key driver for her in her cycling career. Together with these young riders from the development team, she hopes to grow and support them to discover the best version of themselves.
