Ilse's Bio

Ilse Pluimers, 20, is from the Netherlands and has been part of our development team since she was a junior from January 2019.

From childhood, Ilse was a very sporty person, who you could first find in the gymnastics arena. However, it soon became clear that cycling was in her DNA. Her grandfather Johan Pluimers was a professional cyclist and you could also find her parents on the bike a lot. Gradually she learned how to race a bike. When her brother Rick Pluimers eventually also became a member of a cycling club, Ilse decided to make the switch to cycling at the age of nine. And with success…

When you ask Ilse what type of rider she is, she will answer that she is a fast rider. Attacking and riding away in races as well as time trials have her preference. Short climbs that require a lot of power or a race where she can unleash all of her power can also charm her.

“The great thing about cycling is that you go everywhere. It asks a lot, it takes a lot, but you get so much in return. The tactics and having to go to the extreme make this sport so beautiful.”

Although she wants to shape her specialties even more, she already wants to map her ambitions. Ilse's biggest goal is to add the title of world or Olympic champion to her palmares. She also hopes to check off major competitions, such as the Tour of Flanders or Paris-Roubaix. Of course she has already set short-term goals for herself, including winning a youth jersey in a grand tour or finishing in the top-5 in a classic.
