Marthe's Bio

Marthe Goossens joined the AG Insurance - Soudal team for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. The 20-year-old Belgian rider is relatively new to road cycling but already had an impressive career in BMX before. At the age of 4 she was already enjoying herself on a BMX and managed to develop her talents.

“My grandparents owned a bike shop and they had one more BMX bike in stock for my brother. When I saw him on that bike, I wanted that too. I did BMX from the age of four to 18 and got some great results too. I became world champion once and got a silver medal too. There were also three bronze medals at the different World Championships age groups and five European titles,” Marthe explains proudly.

When the COVID pandemic started and all BMX races were cancelled Marthe took to the road with her brother.

“It was the only thing we could do back then. In 2021 I decided to start a road race and the rest is history. I particularly love road racing because of the variety. There are so many different courses and tactics. Every race has a different story. Although I have only been doing this sport for a year now, I already know I am riding uphill well and have an explosive kick.

I still have much to learn and hope to grow into an all-round rider. I feel AG Insurance - Soudal is the best place to do this. The staff and the riders have already achieved quite a bit in the sport and they can share those experiences with me. My dream is to get as far as possible in this sport and to just get the best out of myself. I hope to one day line up for iconic races like Paris-Roubaix, Strade Bianche and the Tour of Flanders.”

Because of her experience in BMX and now also in road cycling, Marthe describes herself more as an all-rounder. She has a great explosiveness that can come in handy both in climbs and in getting a victory. She hopes to explore her limits in the coming years and become the best person she can be on and off the bike. Her goal is to take part in iconic races, make her mark and become decisive in the race finale in the near future.

Beside cycling you can also find Marthe at school, where she studies Primary Education. In addition to her passion for cycling, she also has a great passion for teaching, so she can help young children to grow.
