Maud's Bio

Maud Rijnbeek is a 20-year-old cyclist who grew up close to Amsterdam. She loved skating in her childhood but unfortunately that was not possible in the summer months. When she was 7 years old, one day she decided to go cycling with her parents and grandfather. This is how she got the passion for cycling and soon she followed a first trial lesson at DTS in Zaandam. Since then she hasn't stopped cycling and you can find her on the pedals every day. She cycled at DTS throughout her youth, and then made the switch to WTC de Amstel with the U17.

From the juniors she got the chance to race with the ABP Development Team and in 2020 she managed to conquer a place with the AG Insurance - NXTG development team. Maud is proud of the opportunities the team has given her and continues to offer her. She will also be part of the new elite team AG Insurance - Soudal Quick-Step from 2023.

In 2021 she managed to make her breakthrough by finishing Paris-Roubaix as the youngest female cyclist ever. Barely 18 years old, she kept going over the wet and slippery cobblestones. She finished at the world famous velodrome in 31st place. A moment where she managed to write history among the many big names. For Maud this was a monumental day, which has provided one of the most beautiful memories in her life.

Maud describes herself more as an all-round rider, where she excels in competitions under tough conditions such as cobblestones, lots of wind and rain or steepy climbs. She also likes multi-day cycling races and time trials.

“It is the speed that attracts me. My bike takes me to places I would never have visited otherwise. That's what I like about it. Also that you, as a team, start thinking about how to approach a race or that you know how to respond to the situation at the right time during a race, in order to achieve good results as a team. And of course the nice coffee stops during the training sessions are great!"

At AG Insurance-Soudal Quick-Step we get a great race program. Last year I rode Paris-Roubaix again. The Tour of Flanders is also a top race for me. And the Tour de France of course! I really want to learn from the more experienced riders in the team and get better and better as a cyclist, so that I can eventually also be among the top cyclists and can compete for the win!”
