Ally wins the New Zealand national criterium championship for the second time!⁣

Ally Wollaston has won the national criterium title in New Zealand for the second year running. Our kiwi was the fastest around the course in Palmerston on the Northern Island. This victory is the second one of the year for AG Insurance-Soudal Quick-Step and the second one for Ally as well.

“The championships were held around the Massey University campus,” Ally explains. “It was the first time it had ever been held there so it was a new course to try out! The race itself was a lot of fun. Given the small field we had here I was keen to make the race really hard. I wanted to put on a good display of aggressive racing. After multiple attacks early on in the race the third one stuck.”

New Zealand has a dedicated championship for the criterium just like countries as Australia, the United States or the United Kingdom have too. The jersey that comes with it can be worn in criteriums only. The road national championships of New Zealand are 10 to 12 February.

“I’m really proud to win the criterium national title for another year running! It’s a real privilege to wear a national champion’s jersey and I’m glad I can hold onto it for another year. It was extra special because my dad studied at this university. It was a trip down memory lane for him today and nice for me to be racing on his old stomping grounds! A good day in many respects,” Ally concludes.

Ally’s AG Insurance-Soudal Quick-Step 15 teammates travel to Spain next week to prepare for the road season where Volta Comunitat Valenciana Fèmines from 16 to 19 February is the first race. Ally will stay in New Zealand for the road national championships followed by two Track Nations Cup races in Jakarta and Cairo before joining the team inn Europe at the end of March.
