Luca Vierstraete ended her track season today with a second Belgian title. Earlier this month she managed to win the Belgian sprint title after an impressive long sprint. On Saturday she added a title in the madison alongside Hélène Hesters.

“Despite that sprint title, the endurance events are my favorite events,” the AG Insurance – Soudal Quick-Step U19-team rider looks back on the track season where she won two golds, six silvers and one bronze medal.

“Hélène was supposed to do the sprints because she is a bit more explosive, but that didn't always work out well,” she says about Saturday's madison. “So, I gave everything in those sprints. Hélène and I also took a lap together because one of the other teams made a mistake. That gave us a decisive advantage.”

There were only four female couples on the track at the Flemish Cycling Center Eddy Merckx, resulting in the junior men's race being held at the same time.

“That made it a complicated race,” continues the 16-year-old rider from Kortrijk. “I am therefore very happy with this second gold medal. Now I will focus on the road season with my teammates, although I hope to be able to ride the European Championships or maybe even the World Track Championships for juniors in Colombia later this season.”
