Fien's bio
Fien was the youngest of the team last year. Unfortunately, she immediately crashed very hard in her first ever race as an elite rider, so her season was marked by the recovery from that crash. In the last months of the year her talent came to the surface, a good basis to build on in her second year at AG Insurance-Soudal Quick-Step.
“I really love nature, traveling and discovering the world. Cycling takes me to places where I might never go otherwise,” says Fien. “That's one of the reasons I love this sport. I also enjoy helping others and learning from each other.”
Fien could therefore often be found on the side of the road during her recovery to encourage her teammates and help the soigneurs.
“I'm studying nutrition and dietetics so that definitely interests me, although I'm also addicted to peanut butter,” she laughs. “I live in a student house in Ghent, so I often cook for myself and my friends. It is not always easy to combine: cooking, baking, seeing friends and cycling, but I really just love doing everything.”
As a rider, Fien likes tough races with cobblestones and heavy weather. She is all-round and, in her own words, excels at nothing. She dreams of races such as Paris-Roubaix, the Strade Bianche and of course the Tour of Flanders, which passes by her doorstep. The Paddenstraat is almost her home.
“Yes, that is very special then. It still surprises me that cycling has become such a passion because it really took me a while before I could even ride. My father and brother are avid cyclists so I went along and when two friends joined a club, I followed them. From that moment on, cycling has taken over a part of my life.”
